SM Hypermarket

Henry Sy founded the business in 1958 under the name Shoemart, opening the first location in Manila. The Shoemart shoe store chain spread to new areas in the 1960s. Shoemart became a full-line department store in 1972. The company began operating supermarkets and home appliance stores in 1985.
