Sta. Teresa de Avila Parish

Its patron saint, Teresa of Avila, was honored with the church’s name. During the Spanish era, Talisay was owned by Augustinian friars and a visita of San Nicolas, a region south of the municipality of Cebu, to which it was eventually annexed. When the local population increased, the territory broke away from San Nicolas, and on August 16, 1836, Father Juan Soriano’s parish was officially recognized as independent thanks to a royal order issued on April 25, 1836. It’s interesting to note that inside one of the tiny chapels inside the cathedral, there is still the tomb of a different priest who may have been Juan Soriano’s mentor.
