Carmelite Monastery

The fourth foundation of Jaro Carmel (the “Casa Madre”), Cebu Carmel, was founded in desperation with a heroic faith in the providence of God. On May 10, 1949, a novice from Jaro Carmel and five professed nuns came in Cebu. They were the first Prioress, Sr., and Foundress, Mother Mary of Jesus (Jesusa Tinsay).The Carmelite Order was born in the Majestic Mountain of Carmel in Palestine, which was home to the Prophet Elijah, the order’s Father and Leader.
