St. Isidore Worker Mass Schedule
Spanish farmworker Isidore the Laborer, also known as Isidore the Farmer (Spanish: San Isidro Labrador), was revered for his kindness to the underprivileged and animals. He is the Catholic patron saint of Madrid, El Gobernador, Jalisco; La Ceiba, Honduras; programmers and farmers. The Spanish occupational name labrador comes from the verb labrar, and is commemorated on May 15. Therefore, to merely translate him as a “laborer” is a poor translation of the Spanish labrador since it ignores the crucial farming component of his profession and identity. He went by Isidro de Merlo y Quintana in real life.
Maria Torribia, also known as Santa Mara de la Cabeza in Spain, was the wife of Isidore; the pope has not yet recognized her as a saint. Maria and Isidore had a son. When their son accidentally fell into a deep well, it is stated that after their prayers, the well’s water miraculously rose to the level of the earth, dragging the youngster along with it. Isidore and Maria then made a vow of celibacy and moved into separate homes in thankfulness. Later, their young kid passed away.
